CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS: WHO Owns Your Body and Your Spirit ?

Does the BIBLE DIRECTLY tell us WHO owns our body and spirit ?

YES, but ONLY

IF our BIBLE follows the Byzantine Greek mss.

UNFORTUNATELY, we have more than 61 modern English Bibles which DO NOT TELL US directly “who” owns our Body and Spirit.

Let us hear the WORD of GOD IN 1 Corinthians 6: 19 - 20.

What ? know ye not . . .

that your body is the temple of the HOLY SPIRIT Which is in you, Which ye have of GOD, and ye are not your own?

For ye are bought with a price:

therefore glorify GOD in your body,

and in your spirit, Which are GOD’S.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

+  +  +

In 1 Corinthians 6:20 , hundreds of Byzantine manuscripts speak with one voice, telling us WHO owns both our body and our spirit.

. . . and in your spirit, Which are GOD’S.

But of the 61 English version Bibles listed on Bible Gateway’s website

only 12 included the last seven words.

Of those 12, six  of them include the King James Version or a variation of it.

The other six Bibles which include the direct statement of WHO owns body and soul are:

·        1599 Geneva Bible,

·        J.B. Phillips New Testament,

·        the Modern English Version,

·        the New Matthew Bible of 2016, [ from Tyndale, Coverdale, and the Great Bible ]

·        the World English Bible, and

·        Young’s Literal Translation.

The difference between the 12 English Bibles and the 49* other English Bibles [ in this verse ] listed on Bible Gateway’s website can be traced back to ONE thing and one thing only:

the Greek manuscripts that are followed in this verse

( “IN THIS VERSE” means that some of these versions follow the modern, Nestle-Aland / United Bible Society’s Eclectic translation method, which results in a COMPILATION, that is,  a “manufactured” Greek  New Testament text

The editor picks and chooses verses, words, or phrases from a VARIETY of Greek mss, according to the individual translator or his publishing house committee’s preference, in order to make his Greek New Testament text. )

* There are MORE BIBLES THAN ARE LISTED on Bible Gateway’s website which  omit the last seven words of 1 Corinthians 6:20. See the note at the end of the article for those Bibles.

The KJV and the variations of it follow the continuous-reading Byzantine manuscripts. These Greek New Testament manuscripts  are NOT hammered together by an editor or a committee.  These Byzantine manuscripts stand intact; they are not humanly “compiled” nor “manufactured”.  They state what they state.

Following the Eclectic methodology, the modern English versions follow the BASIC ALEXANDRIAN MANUSCRIPTS, numbering only 50 or so.  These Alexandrian Greek manuscripts have many “holes” in them , many errors of omission, insertions, mis-spellings, plurals and singulars mixed, and changes of verb tenses.

Thus, the editors of Bibles using the Alexandrian mss use many other manuscripts --- a word here, a phrase from another ms there --- in order to make corrections and sense out of a New Testament Greek text based on the Alexandrian mss.

The RESULT is a vastly different New Testament Greek text, one that is not found in ANY ancient Greek manuscript.  It has been “manufactured” by the “committees” . [ See below for more information.]

Conscientious Objectors who defend their position by stating 1 Corinthians 6:20  --- that their body and spirit BELONG TO GOD --- are left without DIRECT Biblical support if they follow the popular, modern English versions.

COMPOUNDING THE PROBLEM . . .

. . .  is that Wycliffe Bible International organization will NOT approve of ANY foreign or domestic Bible translation which DOES NOT USE the Nestle-Aland / United Bible Society’s “manufactured” Greek New Testament based on the Alexandrian texts.

In short, they EXPORT that manufactured New Testament  Greek text across the globe.

THE ALEXANDRIAN MANUSCRIPTS ( mss )

The two main Alexandrian mss are 1) the Codex Sinaiticus, also known as Codex ALEPH -01.  The ALEPH is the Hebrew letter “A”.

 ( A codex is in a book-form instead of scroll form ).

It has between 9 and 13 correctors from various centuries , has letters crossed out, words written in the margin, and a suspicious space left empty at the end of Mark 16 . . . omitting the last 12 verses of that chapter.

Its origin and provenance and date are all based on VERY SUSPICIOUS details which involve intrigue between kings and church officials and Constantin Tischendorf.  It has not been tested for age, but the pages include “un-aged” white sheets which can be seen on-line on the Sinaiticus website, available to all.

The other main Alexandrian manuscript is the Codex Vaticanus , also known as B -03, which “appeared” at the Vatican in the 1481. It has a listing in one of their catalogues in 1475.

These two KNOWN dates do  NOT AUTHENTICATE that the Vaticanus was written in the  Fourth Century AD , as promoted.  It too is riddled with omissions, insertions, amendments, and leaves out words or clauses no less than 1,491 places in the New Testament.  It was corrected many times, also.

Like the Sinaiticus, the Vaticanus omits the last 12 verses of Mark 16 ( the Resurrection and Ascension of CHRIST ) , with just enough space left on the page to include it. Like the Sinaticus, the Vaticanus has not be date tested and its origin is quite suspicious.

[ See: DEAN John William Burgon’s volume,  The Revision Revised, 1871, pages 11, 75, 86-87, for a more comprehensive picture of the Codex Vaticanus.

DEAN Burgon refuted WITH FACTS the Westcott-Hort “compiled” Greek manuscript used to make the Revised Standard Version of the Bible.

Nestle-Aland and the United Bible Society editions of the Greek New Testament used Westcott and Hort’s manufactured Greek text as the basis for their modern Greek text. ]

The VATICANUS is the basis of the Greek OLD Testament, known and sold as the Septuagint or LXX.  It is NOT THE ORIGINAL Septuagint, if there ever was one.

30 MSG

There’s more to sex than mere skin on skin. Sex is as much spiritual mystery as physical fact. As written in Scripture, “The two become one.” Since we want to become spiritually one with the Master, we must not pursue the kind of sex that avoids commitment and intimacy, leaving us more lonely than ever—the kind of sex that can never “become one.” There is a sense in which sexual sins are different from all others. In sexual sin we violate the sacredness of our own bodies, these bodies that were made for God-given and God-modeled love, for “becoming one” with another. Or didn’t you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don’t you see that you can’t live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body.
