Some sisters are simply NOT AFRAID ... they are not afraid of what anyone thinks of them... their head(s) belong to CHRIST. (This is what the good sister at www.freetocover.blogspot.com says.)
They are not afraid to make a statement to this dead and dying world that JESUS CHRIST IS ALIVE AND WELL...
...AND READY TO COME BACK!
The exciting thing about wearing a head covering is the opportunities, the doors, it opens for the one wearing it... both literal doors and spiritual doors for witnessing.
And short veils...
My eyes fill with TEARS when I am asked by a stranger, seeing me in a store, to pray for him/her. One young woman came up and poured out her heart to me in the middle of a store... she was desparate to find a church where PERSONAL DISCIPLESHIP was available. She was hungry, and she wanted to grow... and couldn't find a place to be mentored.
Why couldn't she find a place? The normal MODERN CHURCH does not promote actual, personal, discipleship. It just does sermons, songs, and activities.
It is impossible to grow deeper in CHRIST JESUS without personal discipleship... and that lady knew it. She was nearly in tears.
What could I say? I simply re-directed her back to JESUS. The church will be accountable for not feeding the hungry, for the lack of discipleship.
We are NOT SAVED to get a good job, a good education, a good career so that we can support the church institutuion.
We ARE SAVED to begin our walk with The LORD... closer and closer every day, closer and closer in every way, forsaking the world's ways and looks and taking Our LORD'S WORDS AT FACE VALUE: HE+ MEANS EVERY WORD HE+ SAYS.
If Our LORD is calling you to a deeper sacrifice, a deeper committment, a deeper discipleship... go there with HIM+.
I can guarantee that you will walk alone, even in the midst of a church... but it will be with HIM+. You will not BE by yourself, however, because you will have joined THE UNDERGROUND CHURCH... in America, and in each and every land.
Sisters, cover your heads. Cover your daughters' heads. Cover your husband and family in prayer. Cover your elders and your church in prayer. Cover your neighborhood in prayer.
You will be amazed at the order, peace, and strength in The LORD that will descend upon you. You will be a light NOT SET under a basket. The LORD Himself+ will draw others to you for mutual strengthening, for witnessing, for fellowship, and then... for ministry.
Walk! Walk! Walk!

In the Name of the FATHER, the SON+, and the HOLY SPIRIT,
both now and forever. Amen.

Train up a child in the way he (she) should go...
...and when she is old, she will not depart the path.
Sisters in CHRIST... there are veilings of all manner, shape, style, and sizes available. Some can be had, ready-made. (See my link at the bottom of the right hand column.)
Basically, the longer prayer veils are large U-shapes, with the top handles of the U spread out just a bit, like a V. Some sisters have made head-coverings with a point at the bottom (like the V). Others like the rounded part at the bottom. The top of the U-shape... as though you had a ruler across the two handles at the top of the U... is the flat band that fits around the forehead and over the ears to the back of the neck. It can be fastened with a simple safety pin.
Knits are good materials to use because they flow and fit the head. The stiffer materials, like an old white cotton sheet, will make "points" where it folds over the head. I use stiffer cotton materials but make a headband that I sew in front, the part that goes around the face, for a better , non-pointed headcovering.
I have several different kinds of headcoverings. One is my most formal, which I wear in public. This lovely covering is a long, U-shaped veil, in light weight black knit. It has a 2-inch rim of white around the front, also of knit. The white rim makes it look very dressy and very formal. The knit rim helps it fit well to my head.
When I teach school (yes, at a public elementary), I wear a dark blue or black suit, white blouse, dark stockings and black formal shoes. ( I have been pressed into wearing running shoes at times, just to save my knees and feet from the hard cement flooring... but I don't like to look so casual.) My formal veiling is quite dignified in the public setting.
In summer, or when school I'm away from school, I change into an "Amish" or Mennonite-style long dress with matching surplice apron. Recently, The LORD has been showing me to make my surplices a different style... like a tunic, with a front and back to it that also would cover my backside nicely. I made a couple of them in different weight fabric, all out of black. I tie them with a cloth belt that has an crocheted white cross on the end of the long belt which hangs down.
That way, I resemble the Catacomb pictures of the Christian Sisters, circa 400 AD. I don't look Roman Catholic and I don't look Amish or Mennonite... I simply look CHRISTIAN...
We are neither R. Catholic nor Anabaptist; we are simply plain Christians. Regardless of what the public thinks I am, I am able always to witness EVEN IN A SILENT, VISIBLE WAY to The LORD... to HIS+ people... to raise the on-looker's mind to the fact that there IS something beyond the temporal, the here-and-now, which exists.
These pictures of various styles of prayer veils are not of me, but of my dear friend and Sister in the LORD who runs the headcovering home business listed in my link at the side of this page.
I also came in contact with a delightful Orthodox sister who writes an inviting and vivid blogspot about her experiences with the headcovering. She can be found at: www.freetocover.blogspot.com.
One thing is important, though. Sisters, you yourself must know why you are making this committment and be convinced of it yourself. If you are not in a veiled order of nuns or in an Amish or Mennonite community... all of which follow rules for dress and covering... then you yourself will cover because of what you discover the LORD is saying to your heart, not because somebody tells you to do it.
Hold it before the LORD, ask HIM+ for His+ guidance. Don't let any one PUSH you to this decision. And, don't let anyone KEEP YOU AWAY from making it.
(If married, be submissive... If you are meek, the LORD will show you a way and times, if necessary, to cover without embarrassing your husband.)
For the "ungrouped" sisters of the Underground Church in America, the decision to cover your head is as unto The LORD... just like your salvation was.
