The Broken Image
And GOD אֱלֹהִ֔ים [ The ELOHIM ] said,
Let us make man in Our image, after Our likeness:
and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. ***ELOHIM is the collective, plural noun for GOD, meaning The FATHER, The SON+, and the HOLY SPIRIT.
GENESIS 1:26
So GOD אֱלֹהִ֔ים [ The ELOHIM]
created man in HIS own image,
in the image of GOD אֱלֹהִ֔ים [ The ELOHIM]***
created HE him;
male and female created HE them.

Breaking the “Image of ELOHIM” is a VERY serious trespass, as Moses discovered. Moses was not permitted to enter into the TEMPORAL Promised Land due to that trespass. That cost Moses a lot.
What was Moses’ terrible trespass ?
Breaking the IMAGE OF THE ELOHIM, GOD.
Moses broke the image of The FATHER, The SON+, and the HOLY SPIRIT , the image of GOD , before the eyes of the Hebrew people on their exodus out of Egypt.
That dear, long-suffering Prophet of GOD was told ONE TIME to strike the ROCK+ in the wilderness to provide water for the million or more Hebrew people --- and their flocks --- when there was no natural water available for them.
The LORD told Moses:
Behold, I will stand before thee there UPON THE ROCK in Horeb; and thou shalt smite THE ROCK, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. EXODUS 17:6
Unfortunately, there was a second time in their journeys when the multitude needed water badly. The Hebrew people were ANGRY at Moses and Aaron, accusing them of misleading the multitude.
[ Obviously forgetting the Cloud and Pillar of Fire that led and protected them for 40 years. ]
Numbers 20: 5- 13
[ The Hebrew people near Kadesh , in the wilderness of Zin, were speaking unto Moses and Aaron. ]
20:5 And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.
20:6 And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and THE GLORY OF THE LORD appeared unto them. 20:7 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
20:8 Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother,
and SPEAK YE unto the ROCK+ before their eyes;
and it = HE+ shall give forth HIS+ water,
Note: There is NO “it” in Hebrew, only HE or SHE for 3rd person singular.
and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of THE ROCK+: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.
And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual ROCK+ that followed them: and that ROCK+ was CHRIST. 1 CORINTHIANS 10:4
20:9 And Moses took the rod from before THE LORD, as HE commanded him. 20:10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before THE ROCK+, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this ROCK+?
And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod
he smote THE ROCK+ TWICE:
and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. 20:11
20:12 And THE LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron,
Because ye believed ME not, to sanctify ME in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

DEUTERONOMY 32:49 Get thee up into this mountain Abarim, unto mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho; and behold the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a possession:
32:50 And die in the mount whither thou goest up, and be gathered unto thy people; as Aaron thy brother died in mount Hor, and was gathered unto his people:
Because ye trespassed against ME among the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because ye sanctified ME not in the midst of the children of Israel. DEUTERONOMY 32:51
Yet thou shalt see the land before thee; but thou shalt not go thither unto the land which I give the children of Israel. DEUTERONOMY 32:52

For us, this is a serious lesson that should be laid to heart.
All sin BREAKS the IMAGE of GOD in which we ARE created.
Will The LORD apologize to Moses if WE keep on smiting The ROCK+ with our sin. . . and HE permits us to enter the Promised Land ?
NO. His Character Never Changes.
If we persist in SIN, we too will NOT BE PERMITTED to enter into the Promised Land.
For us now, there is NO temporal “Promised Land.”
For us, the ONLY Promised Land is Heaven.
