The WORK of GOD. . . Interactive LENTEN Meditation # 17 ~ John 6:27-29 and Romans 5:8

JESUS said:

Labor not for the meat which perisheth,

but for that meat which endureth unto Ever-Lasting Life, which the SON+ of Man shall give unto you: for HIM+ hath GOD the FATHER sealed.

Then said they unto HIM+, What shall we DO, that we might WORK the works of GOD?

JESUS answered and said unto them, This is the work of GOD, that ye believe on HIM+ Whom+ HE hath sent.

        Q. 1: The LORD JESUS told the people who followed HIM+ ( who wanted to receive more free bread ), to LABOR for the food which endures to Eternal Life.  What was their response ?

They then asked HIM+, ______________________________?

YES, What shall we DO?” . . . in order to work the works of GOD.

Q. 2: What WAS the “work” of GOD ?

That _________________________________________

YES, that you all believe on HIM+ Whom+ GOD sent.

Q. 3: How could sending HIS Beloved SON+ JESUS be a “WORK” that GOD The FATHER did ?  ________________________________________________________________________________________________

NOW, If we think how HARD it would be to send our own son to die for sin-laden, unworthy human beings, it will help us realize the “work” of the heart that is involved in that sacrifice.

This is a true account.

There was a pastor who had to make a choice between rescuing his own son or rescue his neighbor’s son; he could not rescue both.

The three went fishing and the waves grew rough and their boat capsized. They roped themselves together and with prayer,  entered the sea.

As the father swam towards shore, his strength was giving out. He knew his son was saved; the neighbor’s son was not. His son, overswept with waves, bobbed up one last time, “Dad, I cannot fight any longer.”

In agony of heart, his father said, “ SON, I LOVE YOU!”

And the father put his strength to swimming and pulling the neighbor’s son to the shore, alive. But his own son died.

Years later, a visiting evangelist was relating this story to the congregation who had invited him to speak. He likened the Love of The FATHER for HIS SON+ JESUS to the agony in that earthly father's heart for his drowned son.

It was a message well-received by most , except for the surly young men in the back row of the church. The evangelist kept his eye on the them throughout the service.

When the service ended, he managed to talk to those young men. One of them boldly confronted the evangelist and said, “I don’t believe that story you told. No-one would do that.”

The evangelist, not hostile, simply smiled and nodded, saying , “ Yes, it does seem made up, doesn’t it ?”  The youths agreed.

He went on, “ But I’m here to tell you that story is real. I was that neighbor’s son who was chosen to live.”

        Q. 4: SO . . . was The LORD JESUS talking about doing some physical activity to serve GOD or about a spiritual position within the heart of man ?  ____________________________________________________

YES, to believe on JESUS, to believe that GOD The FATHER sent HIS Beloved SON+ to die for us ---

But GOD commendeth HIS LOVE toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, CHRIST died for us . Romans 5:8

--- is THE WORK of GOD.

It is the spiritual position of our heart, in response to The FATHER’S heart of LOVE for mankind.

LET US PRAY:

O HOLY, HEAVENLY FATHER ! I have not seen the hurt of Your heart when YOU gave Your SON+ to be sacrificed for us.

I have not seen Your LOVE, Precious FATHER. I have been afraid of Your judgment because I know I do wrong and act in my flesh oftentimes even though I repent.

O dear FATHER, please receive my love for YOU , through JESUS my LORD.

Help me to see Your Fatherly love in every season of my life . . . in comfort and discomfort, in joy and in sorrow, in freedom and in persecution.

I believe in Your SON+. I believe Your WORK that YOU did for us, O FATHER, WHO loves HIM+ and WHO loves us with the love that YOU gave HIM+. (John 17:23).

In the Holy Name of JESUS CHRIST our LORD, the ONE+ Who+ brings me to His+ Heavenly Father. Amen.
