Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked,
and behold a flying roll !
Zechariah 5:1
The Angel of The LORD awakened Zechariah ( 4:1 ) and showed
him visions. The visions continued on into Chapter 5 which starts with the
FLYING SCROLL.
Although the vision of a 30-feet
by 15–feet FLYING
ROLL was astounding, the Hebrew words
indicate it was a SCROLL for writing that was flying through the
air.
The Hebrew word for scroll
is “megillah”
, from the root word GaLaL, which is a verb
meaning “to roll” . Scrolls were “rolled up”.
Thus,
“megillah” is translated as a ROLL in ancient
Hebrew sources and in the KJV. We would know it as a scroll.
The
Vaticanus Codex B of the Old Testament, which is what is called, published , and
sold as “the Septuagint” or the LXX, states this Hebrew “megillah” is a
FLYING
SICKLE.
However,
other Old Testament Scriptures tell us it could NOT be a SICKLE used to cut or
harvest grain. For Instance,
throughout the verses in Jeremiah chapter 36, the megillah or “roll” was
a written document of a “book”; megillah could NOT be a sickle in Jeremiah nor in Zechariah.
Jeremiah 36:2 clearly states:
Take thee a roll (MEGILLAH) of a book (sepher), and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day.
So we see that MEGILLAH is never used as a SICKLE,
but always as a scroll upon which one writes and which can be read.
See Verse 5:2 next post . . .
JESUS saith unto him,
I+, I AM, the Way, the Truth, and the Life:
no man cometh unto THE FATHER,
but by ME+.
John 14:6
