Why Must We Keep OUR Word ? ~ Psalm 15 ~ ADVENT 2022

He that sweareth to his own hurt,

and changeth not.

Psalm 15

A Psalm of David.

LORD, who shall abide in Thy Tabernacle?

Who shall dwell in Thy holy hill?

15:2  He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.

15:3  He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbor, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbor.

15:4  In whose eyes a vile person is contemned [ despised]; but he honoreth them that fear the LORD.

He that sweareth to his own hurt,

and changeth not.

15:5  He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent.

He that doeth these things shall never be moved.

Why must we keep our vows, our spoken agreements, our commitments , our covenants, our promises ?

We must because . . . we have given Our WORD.

They are our  Word to others, our  Word to The LORD, and our Word to ourselves.

Our Word  reveals who we ARE.  It reveals our character.

The same as it reveals the character of The LORD.

HIS WORD reveals WHO HE IS to mankind. We know HIM through HIS WORD to us.

He that sweareth to his own hurt,

and changeth not.

Psalm 15:4c

When HE gave us HIS PROMISES in Genesis, HE abided by HIS PROMISE to mankind.   HE kept it even when knowing the end from the beginning.

HE abided faithful even when man was NOT faithful to HIM.

If we believe not, yet HE+ abideth faithful:

HE+ cannot deny HIMSELF+.

2 Timothy 2:13

That is, The ELOHIM could not deny WHO HE was, WHO HE is, and WHO HE ever will be. HIS character remains ever the same.

Thus, when we keep our Word to The LORD, to other men, and to ourselves, we reflect the CORRECT CHARACTER of GOD to those around us, both seen and unseen.

He that sweareth to his own hurt,

and changeth not.

Psalm 15:4c

Our TESTING comes when we give our Word . . . and it turns out to be a hurtful and damaging situation  for us that we did not foresee . . . nor bargain for.

That is when we struggle to keep our Word. We struggle to maintain an unchanging character in the midst of hurt and damage.

We feel tricked and dismayed because what we trusted  would bring us good, instead brought us hurt.

Because we can not know the future , we must take risks, no matter how careful we may try to be.

However, GOD the FATHER knew beforehand  what man would do to HIS Only-Begotten SON+  . . . and  HE changed not.

He that sweareth to his own hurt,

and changeth not.

Psalm 15:4c

HE WHO is the ALPHA and OMEGA, the Beginning and the End , knew EXACTLY what man was going to do to the LAMB+ of GOD, sent for man’s Salvation. . . his ONLY means of Salvation .

GOD our FATHER promised and gave His WORD,

to HIS own hurt,

and changed not .

+  +  +

This is why we too must “swear to our own hurt and change not” . . . because GOD did that for us.

+  +  +

But when the fulness of the time was come, GOD sent forth HIS SON+, made of a woman, made under the law,

To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

And because ye are sons, GOD hath sent forth the SPIRIT of HIS SON+  into your hearts, crying, ABBA, FATHER.

Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of GOD through CHRIST.
